Student Spaceflight Experiments

Student Spaceflight Experiments Program banner showing the International Space StationSince 2011, MDSGC has proudly supported Maryland student participation in the Student Spaceflight Experiments Program. This program engages communities of students in an authentic scientific process of designing an experiment for execution in microgravity. The student-designed experiments then compete to be selected for a berth on the launch vehicle. Each participating community’s winning experiment is flown to the International Space Station, where it is carried out by an astronaut, following which it is returned to Earth for analysis. This experience affords students the chance to take part in their own, very real space program.
